In patriarchal tradition Witches are portrayed as the possessors of evil magic powers that threaten the very fabric of decent society. In reality these were often brave, stubborn, Women who stood up to patriarchal injustice and challenged male power. Which of course couldn't be allowed, and so such crazy ideas must be exterminated before they could ever take root. They must be evil!
In reality of course Women's real magic isn't rooted in evil at all, but is a sublime manifestation of the Goddess. What males do find magical and powerful, if not threatening, is Women's true magic powers, Their mysterious sexuality, which can render males helpless, addicted and distracted to the point of madness. It's that Female Power which males have found both scary and irresistible, that is Her true magic.
The magical ability to seduce and enslave the male for the greater good, to bring forth life itself.
Kathleen Kent wrote a book, "The Heretic's Daughter" about the daughter who wrote to one of her granddaughters about the trial of her mother. Engrossing reading. Apparently Ms Kent is a descendant of the witch, Martha Carrier, and I understand, still has the letter.

Grumpy: Angel? Hah! She's a Female, and all Females is full of wicked wiles.
She is definitely like an angel or more like a Goddess, but her wiles aren't wicked. The are the product of superior intelligence, communication skills along with beauty. The funny thing is the boys still think they have a chance. They should learn their new role and take their place at Her feet.
