The Power That is Taylor Swift

It was remarkable to see one of the most powerful corporations on Earth pivot so quickly to capitulate to the demands of a single artist this week on the issue of music streaming royalties. It was a testament to the power of Taylor Swift that the (male) executives of Apple jumped rapidly to change their carefully orchestrated plans after She simply voiced Her displeasure. Swift has indeed become one of the most powerful figures in popular music with massive sales and a devoted following. The music industry dares not cross Her. The one thing about Taylor Swift that i never fail to notice is just how focused and driven She is. She is the epitome of the modern ambitious Alpha-Female. She always exudes intelligence and a self confidence that is both amazing and i suspect, to males, rather intimidating. It also isn’t lost on me that She always reminds me of D in Her physicality, overarching intelligence and fierce ambition. The video here also shows Her as a kind of man eater, able to consume males completely, chew them up and toss them away knowing full well there will always be another eager to take his place even though he too will obviously be consumed in Her burning passion. It’s remarkable that just 30 years ago pop music was considered a male dominated domain. At the time it was considered a major revolution when artists such as Madonna appeared on the scene with music that expressed a Female point of view. Music about Female desires, lust or ambition were considered scandalous. A Women who would sing about openly, unambiguously using men for Her own purposes rattled the powers that be and blew open the doors of the music industry to shift from overwhelmingly male centric to, well at times, the exact opposite. Today it is routine to see Female artists top the charts.  Today these Women have power and influence and aren’t shy about using it.

Taylor Swift is a prime example of a Women who commands Her industry with ease, takes no nonsense from anyone and who represents a wonderful role model for the new generation of empowered millennial Women. Men don’t dare to cross Her.
