The Economist Admits males are The weaker sex

It truly is a sign of the times when a staid, conservative publication such as “The Economist” is forced to admit the superiority of Females in educational attainment and intellectual ability.

Just in the past few days articles were published making these points, one was simply titled “Why Girls do better at school than boys”.

Here an extract ;

“A new study by the OECD, a club of mostly rich countries, examined how 15-year-old boys and girls performed at reading, mathematics and science. Boys still score somewhat better at maths, and in science the genders are roughly equal. But when it comes to the students who really struggle, the difference is stark: boys are 50% more likely than girls to fall short of basic standards in all three areas.”

Now lets let this sink in. It has always been clear that Girls far outperform boys at reading,writing and languages. There has never been any question about this. What i find really interesting here is that in those supposed bastions of male excellence, science and maths, Females have either completely eliminated the gap or have closed it dramatically. Where once boys were always referred to as having superior math abilities that  gap has been reduced to ‘somewhat better’. In science it has been eliminated.

The even more striking statement  is the last sentence. boys are 50% more likely to be deficient in all three areas. In other words the typical poor student is male.

It has also been clear for some time that these superior results follow through to higher education. Women are dominating both enrollment and degree completion in university and have been for some time. The gap in fact seems to be growing.

Here’s another interesting observation


“But men and women tend to study different subjects, with many women choosing courses in education, health, arts and the humanities, whereas men take up computing, engineering and the exact sciences. In mathematics women are drawing level; in the life sciences, social sciences, business and law they have moved ahead.”

The first sentence rolls out that old chestnut suggesting that Girls do better because they choose easier subjects. The next line lays waste to that. Girls have just about pulled even in maths while in life science,business and law they have surged ahead. i also found it funny that they chose not to mention medicine which is now literally a Female dominated domain. Western medical schools are now reporting 60-70% Female enrollment.

When i mentioned this last point to Goddess, Who has some knowledge of this area, She simply stated that “medical schools only accept students with the absolute highest grades and those students are Girls”

With math falling away as a male domain and arts, business, law, medicine and life sciences already Female Dominated can there be little doubt that many Girls are firmly setting Their sites on the lucrative software and engineering fields. There are already many programs coming on line to encourage Women to sturdy in these areas and i’ll provide a couple of anecdotal examples.

In my last paid job i worked for a large software company. My boss and my bosses boss were both Women. Women were product managers for two critical new products and they both got things done and drove those products to completion. There was no grumbling or complaining among all the males who were subordinate to these Women. In fact the male employees highly respected Their bosses and worked very hard to see that these projects were a success. The Women were highly respected and admired for both Their technical abilities and managerial skills. In fact in the division where i worked about 40% of the employees were Female. It was not the male citadel  one would be lead to believe exists in software engineering. The company was also very actively encouraging Women to move upward in management and working hard to recruit more Women employee’s and student interns.

As a second example i don’t have to look any further that Goddesses younger Sister. She completed double university  degrees in both arts and computer science, then a masters in computer science and went on to form Her own software company based on the technology She developed in graduate school. On a recent road trip while i was driving the car the two Sisters were engaged in an hours long discussion about business, management and tax issues. i pretty much just kept my eyes on the road since i didn’t really have anything to contribute to this conversation. It was however fascinating to listen to the intense discourse between these two brilliant Women.

So this raises the question as to why Girls have been so academically successful and continue to show so much momentum in this area as the boys fall away into a secondary (at best) status.

One place many are unwilling to go is to simply acknowledge that Women/Girls are, on average, more intelligent than men/boys. This concept may make some uncomfortable but it’s a logical conclusion based on the evidence. Women score a bit higher than males on traditional IQ tests, which is one form of intelligence testing but when one looks at the totality of the academic testing and performance the differences seem rather pronounced.

Once the playing field between Girls and boys was leveled it was game over for the boys

Other aspects of Women’s intelligence and personality also give them a distinct advantage. Women read more, work harder and are less distracted by trivial things. Women’s superior combination of intelligence, hard work, dedication, drive and ambition gives Them the edge. Did you ever notice how Women in university seem to have their whole academic career mapped out very early. They have figured out all the steps needed to get into med school, for example, and work like crazy to get there. They don’t get distracted by boys, video games, porn, sports etc. They are by nature more diligent and have superior ‘emotional intelligence’. A vital characteristic needed in dealing with employees and negotiations.

i recently saw a study which measured 15 characteristics associated with successful managers. On 11 of the 15 Women were judged superior to males and scored even with them on the other four. It is now widely recognized that Women make the best managers.

So let’s all just get that out of the way and state the simple truth.

Women possess an overall intelligence superior that that of males


i firmly believe this, i believe the evidence supports this and all my life i’ve been witness to countless incidents and examples which reenforce this conclusion.

This is something We/we all should celebrate.

So with International Women’s Day upon Us/us lets consider another point.

A who’s who of the Fortune 500 right? Well guess what? Today, in 2015, each of these companies is lead by a Female CEO. Isn’t that amazing. Could you imagine such a list just 40 years ago. It would have seemed impossible. It’s amazing just how fast Women have risen to the highest levels in the corporate world.

Yet this area remains perhaps the greatest challenge to the advancement of Women. The business world indeed remains an ‘old-boys’ network and Women remain underrepresented.

It’s clear that these old men will hold on ‘tooth and nail’ to their ‘mad men’ world of male privilege. The only solution is perhaps to legally mandate Women’s inclusion. It is already understood that Women make better managers and deliver better results than their male counterparts so something must give. Shareholders should be demanding this and governments should be legally mandating it.

In fact just this week the German government moved to mandate a minimum percentage of female corporate officers in German companies. This is huge and a great start. It’s about time governments took steps to address these contrived obstacles to Women’s success.

Of course it took a government lead by a Women and a fellow Female cabinet minister to make it happen. Showing how Women in government can move against overt patriarchy. It’s also worth celebrating  the fact that the most powerful and successful country in Europe is lead by a Women as well.

It also looks like the Democratic party in the United States is leaning towards a Female candidate in the next presidential election. In fact the only two candidates talked about are both Women.

Things are coming into place. The Female Future is advancing, sometimes by fits and starts but it is advancing. That is something worth thinking about this weekend.
